Job description:

Teaching & Academic Responsibilities:

– Developing and implementing new methods/technology of teaching to reflect changes in research.

– Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials in assigned courses.

– Designing, preparing and developing teaching materials.

– Setting, invigilate and marking examinations.

– Develop and update course materials, ensuring alignment with academic and industry standards.

– Ensures that accurate records of assignment marks, examination papers, work completed, etc. are kept.

– Assessing students’ coursework, student performance through assignments, examinations, and practical applications.

– Supervise student research projects, internships, and dissertations.

– Provide academic counseling and mentorship to students.

– Supporting students through a pastoral / advisory role

Industry Engagement:

  • Collaborate with industry partners for guest lectures, internships, site visits, and project-based learning.
  • Establish and maintain industry linkages to enhance graduate employability.

Curriculum Development:

  • Actively participate in the review and development of curriculum and syllabus updates to ensure relevance and industry alignment.
  • Contribute to the creation of innovative and outcomebased education (OBE) learning materials.

Conference Participation:

  • Attend and present at academic and professional conferences to enhance subject-matter expertise and institutional visibility.
  • Encourage student participation in relevant academic events.

Student Retention & Engagement:

  • Monitor student progress and engagement to support retention strategies.
  • Conduct academic advising and mentoring for students.

MySETARA Compliance:

  • Contribute to academic activities aligned with MySETARA criteria and performance indicators.
  • Ensure quality assurance processes support institutional rankings and standards.

Physical & Online Teaching (Johor Bahru & Kuala Lumpur Campuses):

  • Deliver lectures and tutorials both in-person and via online platforms across JB and KL campuses.
  • Adapt content delivery for hybrid and blended learning environments.

KPT & MQA Compliance and Audits:

  • Ensure all academic activities comply with the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) standards.
  • Participate in internal and external audits and accreditation exercises.

Filing & Academic Records Management:

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance, attendance, and course documentation.
  • Ensure secure and organized filing systems aligned with institutional policies.

Research & Innovation:

– Engage in research activities, contributing to peer

-reviewed publications and conferences.

– Collaborate with colleagues and industry partners on research projects.

– Apply for research grants and funding opportunities.

– Writing up research and preparing it for publication.

– Undertaking personal research projects and actively contributing to the Institution’s research profile.

– Supervising students research activities and internship.

– Participates actively in University College and school research colloquiums, workshops and seminars in order to enhance research and discipline knowledge. Training & Consultancy:

– Develop and deliver professional training programs tailored to industry needs.

– Provide consultancy services to organizations and businesses, leveraging subject matter expertise.

– Participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences to share knowledge and best practices.

– To conduct all relevant Training & Consultancy programs and other related tasks for our clients anywhere in the world.

MECA – Maritime Entrepreneurship & Commercialization Accelerator:

  • Involve in designing, developing, and delivering entrepreneurship-focused modules tailored for the maritime sector.
  • Support commercialization strategies and mentor participants in business incubation and startup development.

FLP – Future Leader Program:

  • Facilitate leadership training modules aimed at grooming high-potential students and young professionals.
  • Contribute to personal development, innovation, and critical thinking skill-building workshops.

Design and Development of Professional Programs:

  • Lead or contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of professional and executive education programs.
  • Ensure program content meets industry standards, market demand, and complies with regulatory bodies (e.g., MQA, KPT).
  • Collaborate with industry partners, academic advisors, and internal stakeholders to ensure relevance and quality.
  • Develop modular, flexible content suitable for working professionals, including micro-credentials, short courses, and certification-based programs.
  • Participate in the evaluation and continuous improvement of program delivery and learner outcomes.

Administrative & Institutional Contributions:

– Assist in the development and improvement of academic programs.

– Contribute to faculty meetings, curriculum planning, and accreditation processes.

– Support departmental and institutional goals through committee participation and event coordination.

– Ensure compliance with university policies and regulations.

– Undertaking Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and participating in staff training activities.

– Representing the Institution for professional conferences, seminars and contributing to these as necessary.

– Assist in managing an effective induction program for new employees to enable a positive on-boarding experience.

– Establishing collaborative links outside Institution with industrial, commercial and public organization.

– Participates actively in departmental and school activities.

– Align HR policies, strategies, relations and engagement activities to management and company vision.

Lecturers are expected to actively contribute to the administrative and developmental activities of the institution. Responsibilities include:

  • Participation in faculty and university committees, meetings, and academic planning activities.
  • Involvement in program review, accreditation, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Coordination and support of academic events, seminars, and student development programs.
  • Engagement with Academic and Industry Advisors
  • Establish and maintain regular communication with appointed academic and industry advisors.
  • Coordinate advisor meetings to ensure alignment between academic programs and industry expectations.

– Convocation Involvement:

  • Support planning and execution of convocation ceremonies.
  • Participate in academic processions and assist with graduate coordination and event logistics.
